The Cotai Strip

The Cotai section of Macau is an intensive strip of casino and hotel complexes. This piece of land was created as part of a major land reclamation project – joining the islands of Coloane and Taipa. The Cotai Strip was developed to emulate the success of the iconic Las Vegas Strip.

The Casino

The casino at The Venetian Macao is so big that it is divided into four different themed gaming areas. These areas are called Golden Fish, Imperial House, Red Dragon, and Phoenix. The design of the casino is one big circle with rays coming out that connect to the different elements of the resort including the shops, restaurants, and hotel room.s For VIP gamblers or high rollers, The Venetian Macao offers the Paiza Club which has a separate entrance, lobby, reception and lifts (to the hotel rooms). The Paiza Club is further divided into individual private gaming rooms. The casino games that are played at The Venetian Macao include all of your favourite casino games including Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Baccarat, and Poker.

Fan Tan

One of the casino games played at The Venetian Macao that you won’t see everywhere is the game of Fan Tan. This is a game that originated in China and is similar in many ways to roulette. Fan Tan is a relatively simple game – a square is marked in the centre of a table, the sides are marked 1, 2, 3, and 4. The banker puts on the table a double handful of small buttons or beans (or similar sized items) and this is covered with a metal bowl (known as the “tan koi”). The players then bet on the numbers – placing their bets on the side of the square that corresponds to their selected number. Cross bets are also possible. Once betting is completed, the bowl is removed and the croupier uses a small bamboo stick to remove the buttons from the heap, four at a time. When the final batch is reached it is the number of buttons remaining (1, 2, 3, or 4) that determines who wins.

The Hotel

The hotel of the complex is contained in The Venetian Macao’s enormous tower. 2,905 hotel suites are contained within the hotel’s tower. The largest room in the hotel is the Presidente suite which has four bedrooms.

Contained within The Venetian Macao’s complex is the Cotai Arena which has seating capacity for 15,000 people. The arena hosts sporting events such as basketball, tennis, and boxing, as well as major concerts and events.

If you fancy a bit of international gambling or you just happen to be visiting the island of Macau, then you will definitely be visiting The Venetian Macao and the casinos of the Cotai Strip.
