It’s so easy to play a game of poker these days as so many casinos sites offer live play casino games. You don’t even need to make a deposit to start playing on some sites; just by signing up and registering your card details, you’ll qualify to take part in poker freeroll tournaments held on the site.

Freerolls are a great way of learning how to play poker without having to put real money down, as the casino provides the pot. Anyone new to the game of poker should make sure they profit from any free game play on offer, so that when they do start playing for real cash, they stand more of a chance of keeping it!

Although there are lots of different poker games, the basic aim is always the same. Players aim to win the ‘pot’ – the collective amount of chips or money bet during the game. With the cards they are dealt and the community cards on the table, the players make the strongest hand possible so that they can get control of the pot and make moves that push others out of the game. When players leave the game, they fold, and relinquish their claim on the pot.

Texas Hold’em is one of the most played games of poker worldwide. Each player is dealt two cards face-down and there are five community cards which are dealt face up. The first three community cards are called the flop, and are followed by the fourth card – the turn – and the fifth card – the river. Cards number four and five are sometimes also called fourth and fifth street. During a game, players can place bets before the flop, after the flop, on the turn and finally on the river.

A similar game is Omaha Hold’em and this game also has five community cards. However, each player is dealt four hole cards face down and the aim of the game is to create the best hand they can using two of their hole cards and three community cards.

Before Texas Hold’Em became the most popular poker game in the USA, Seven Card Stud was the number one game. Players are dealt four cards face up and three cards face down. With the cards they are dealt, players must make the best five-card hand possible.

A game that often appeals to new players because of its apparent simplicity is Five-card draw. Each player receives five cards face down from the dealer. Bets are placed after the first deal, after which players can decide to swap up to three cards. This stage is called the draw. Another round of betting follows the draw and then it’s time for the showdown, where remaining players show their hand for the pot.

These four games illustrate that there’s a lot to learn in playing poker, which is why it’s great that you can make use of freeroll tournaments to develop your skills before betting real money.
